Temporary Bracing Guidelines
Metal Building Systems provide efficient, cost effective solutions for low-rise buildings. These buildings are highly engineered, optimized structures, with virtually all elements of the building structure working as an integral system to meet the strength and serviceability requirements for the project. However, due to these characteristics, Metal Building Systems are particularly prone to strength and stability deficiencies during assembly and erection, when all elements of the structure are not in place. Failure to provide adequate temporary bracing and/or adhere to appropriate sequencing of erection to ensure stability of the partially erected structure has led to the collapse of partially erected building structures.
The purpose of this Design Guide is to assist Metal Building contractors and erectors in developing temporary bracing and sequencing requirements for each metal building project.
